Jonah Dylan- 7 Months Old

Jonah is a big little man with an even bigger heart. He is my cuddly koala bear who is always ready and willing to give us the best hugs and kisses. I adore his personality as it unveils the older he gets and love his affectionate ways!

He loves:

  • Watching Sadie (he loves to laugh at her, usually when she does something she’s not supposed to do)
  • Giggling and talking our ears off first thing in the morning
  • Being held all the time
  • Music
  • Grabbing and putting everything in the vicinity straight into his mouth
  • Rough housing
  • Being outside
  • The ladies

Not so crazy about:

  • Being strapped in his car seat
  • Watching Daddy and especially Mommy walk away
  • Not being able to crawl and move as much as he wants to

Milestones & Stats:

  • 20 pounds 5 ounces. No I do not overfeed him. And yes, it’s all been exclusively breast milk. He doesn’t have a roll on his body despite the chunka weight either. He’s a dense, muscle man! To put it in perspective, Sadie is 2 1/2 and she weighs in at 29 pounds. Wow.
  • Crawling backwards.
  • Up and on all fours trying to figure out how to crawl forward without doing a face plant.
  • Pulling up on things to sit on his knees.
  • Says, “Dadda, Dadda, Dadda” all the time. I remind TJ daily that at this age, his speech is meaningless and he’s perfecting his echolalia. Of course, his first real word will be “Mommy.”

Jonah Dylan-6 Months Old

Jonah is six months old today and it has flown by!

The wonderful thing about this age is that his personality is really beginning to shine through. This is the age where while I am pregnant, I envision the most. He is such a cuddly, smiling, affectionate little man and he has captured our hearts completely!

Likes:

  • Being carried by Mama
  • Watching Sadie jump
  • Sitting up
  • Crawling backwards
  • Holding your hand while he’s nursing (melt my heart)
  • Rough housing with Daddy

Dislikes:

  • His big boy car seat. He can’t see Sadie anymore very well, so he has nobody to keep him entertained.
  • Teething. What baby does?! But this boy’s pain threshold is at zero.
  • Being put down and watching someone leave the room.
  • Being away from Mama. We’ve only put him in the nursery at church 2 times so far and both times were a disaster. He does okay with Nana & Papa watching him…he only cries, not screams. Poor baby.

Milestones:

  • Sitting up unassisted for prolonged amounts of time
  • Crawling backwards. He likes to pull himself up on his arms, then down on his belly, stick his butt up in the air and scooch back and repeat
  • Two bottom front teeth
  • Propping himself up on all fours
  • He responds to his name
  • Language development is right on track

Known allergies as we start solids to keep record of:

  • Wheat
  • Dairy
  • Eggs
  • Peanuts/Almond

Intolerant (maybe allergic to with further testing):

  • Tomatoes
  • Broccoli
  • Beans
  • Apples (2nd solid food tried on Monday)

Stats from the Dr.:

Weight: 19 pounds 5 ounces (75%)

Height: 26.5 inches (50%)

Head Circumference: 44 cm. (50%)

Jonah-5 Months

20120312-195313.jpg

Our little boy is not so little. In fact, he’s our chunka chunka, chunky monkey, tank (named by Nana B and Poppi), Moose (named by Uncle Matt), hunka chunka, big boy, little big man….you can certainly get the idea. He’s weighing in at 18.2 pounds!!! He’s a mere 10 pounds away from Sadie! Mommy doesn’t have good milk, she has good heavy cream!

Likes:

  • Kisses
  • Girls
  • Being held
  • Rolling around
  • Being outside
  • Eye contact
  • Pinching
  • Watching Sadie jump
  • “Playing” with Daddy at 4:00 am
  • Sleeping in his crib for naps
  • His car seat (finally)!

Dislikes:

  • Being left alone in a room during play time
  • Watching us eat real food because he wants it for himself

We are entering an age with Jonah where we are really starting to see his personality start to blossom and I am loving it. He is a sweet, flexible, cuddly boy who LOVES to rough-house. He is really calm and quiet unless it is first thing in the morning when he talks non-stop with a burst of energy or if he decides he’s up for a good giggle. He has a really sweet, playful demeanor to him that I just love.

Jonah- 4 Months Old

Jonah has come into his own this past month! He has such a happy disposition and is a serious flirt with the ladies. Picture Joey from the show Friends doing his “How you doin’?” line with the head throw back. That is Jonah when he meets a smiling, doting woman. It’s like you see him and think he’s such a lovely baby and then see that head throw back with that Jonah smile and you immediately get sucked into the vortex that melts your heart. He certainly caught mine.

I love this little man.

Likes:

  • Laughing with Sadie. She does her elephant sound and he giggles away. They can go back and forth long enough for TJ and I to eat our dinner in peace.
  • Rolling over. The boy won’t stay on his back for anything anymore. Diaper changes have become a safety hazard and a real challenge to actually get the diaper on without partaking in an involuntary wrestling match.
  • Mornings. He is so giddy and talkative in the mornings.
  • Kicking. He kicks and pumps that right leg with so much determination!
  • Balloons. Sadie’s Nana B bought her a Mickey Mouse balloon at the mall and he’s enamored with it being bopped in his face.
  • Chewing his fist. The whole fist. Until the whole fist gags him and then he repeats.
  • Rough housing. He won’t do it for Mama, but when Daddy comes home and messes with him and tickles him, he lights up and laughs away.

Dislikes:

  • Car seat. We’re getting better, but we are by no means healed of the trauma of the car seat.
  • Being in one place for too long. After just a few minutes somewhere, he gets bored and is ready to move on. No matter how much he likes what he’s doing, he is a man on the move.
  • Sneezing. When TJ sneezes, it startles him and makes him cry. It’s ok, because I do the same thing. Haha!
  • The vacuum. Has the same effect of the aforementioned sneeze.

Milestones:

  • Grasping desired objects. Especially Mommy’s hair.
  • Rolling like a mad man.
  • Sit unassisted for a couple moments at a time.
  • Right on track with language development. He’s loud too.

Jonah-3 Months

This boy has melted our hearts and worn out our arms this past month!

Likes:

  • He’s ticklish. If you rub your nose and kiss him on the bottom of his ribs, you’ll get belly laughs.
  • Bath time. Put the boy in water and he starts his kickin’.
  • Watching Sadie play. Every time she’s around him, he gets a curious look on his face and is completely fixated.
  • Girls. He loves Daddy like nobody else, but he also does this cute open mouth smile with a thrown back head tilted to the side for the ladies.
  • His fist in his mouth. He won’t take a pacifier, but he tries to stick his entire fist in his mouth so he can drool all over himself. Teething so soon?! I think so.
  • Diaper changes. He always starts in with the smiles when he gets a new diaper.
  • Open mouth kisses. He opens his mouth wide and finds your cheek and lays on the slobber!
  • Mornings. Most mornings he wakes up before me, I roll over in a daze and see this little man grinning from ear to ear grunting at me. Not a bad way to start any day.

Dislikes:

  • Car seat. We are still screaming a good part of the time in the car. There’s no rhyme or reason to it and no amount of toys dangling for him to look at or persuasiveness on Sadie’s part to be quiet help him. He gets himself so worked up that by the time we get to our destination he has wet clothes from sweating and has scratched himself on the face. So maybe putting him in naked and with gloves on would be a good idea!
  • Not being worn. The boy is going through a phase (please remind me this is a phase) where he wants to be held when he sleeps. He prefers to hear a heartbeat and for you not to be sitting down. Most of the time if you put him down in the other room and leave to go do something, he senses it and wakes up within 10 minutes. This just means we will have buff arms and can easily finish a full marathon by the time he learns how to walk.
  • His eczema. It seems to be getting worse than the previous weeks, so I’m officially cutting out dairy to see if it helps him any. We can tell it bothers him and it probably contributing to the increased fussiness he’s had. Of course, going dairy-free probably will because it’s just my kinda luck!

Milestones to note:

  • Great head control.
  • Starting to grasp for things.
  • Rolls over from tummy to back and more recently back to tummy.
  • Can sit up assisted for short intervals.
  • Sleeping through the night with a waking around 3:00 am to eat and then every couple days has a rougher night for reasons we haven’t figured out yet.

Jonah Dylan: 2 Months

Our Jonah is having no problems growing quickly!

Weight: 13 pounds 10 ounces (91 percentile)

Height: 24 inches (94 percentile)

We’ve learned some likes and dislikes…

Likes:

  • Being held upright, over your shoulder, while patting his bottom, while slightly bouncing, while swaying from side to side.
  • Cuddling. This is when he is happiest.
  • Sleeping sideways with his head to the side and jammed up against the co-sleeper.
  • Night. He is regularly sleeping through the night except for one waking between 3:00-4:00 am for a quick feeding and then goes right back to sleep. THANK YOU JONAH!
  • Daddy. He loves his Mama, but the second Daddy is around he is so happy and excited that he can’t contain it!
  • Tummy time. He really does well with it!

Dislikes:

  • The car seat. This is how we first found out that he had found his voice. If he’s asleep, the car seat is no problem. But if he is awake, he’ll last about 5 minutes before the screaming starts in. For a couple days he would only scream if you slowed down to somewhere under 30 mph. Now he just screams. Sadie either stares at him like she’s perplexed by his fit or repeats in competition with his volume by telling us, “Jonah is loud.”
  • The sunset. Not quite sure why yet, but it seems like as soon as the sun goes down, he becomes a little more fussy and needs to be held 100% of the time. He stays awake so long at this point that he becomes overtired and is difficult to get to sleep, but once he does, he’s out cold!

And…he’s full of smiles!

Jonah- One Month

Well, we have been a family of four for a month now and although it has passed quickly, it feels like it’s always been this way. We can’t imagine what life was like without this little guy in the same way TJ and I can’t recall what it was like when it was just the two of us.

Tidbits we don’t want to forget about his first month:

  • He is a cuddle monster. He especially loves snuggling under your chin or cheek to cheek.
  • He is strong. He has already rolled on his side (showing of for his Pediatrician) and will lift his head and swoop it around to the other side during tummy time effortlessly.
  • He loves his Daddy. He tracks TJ with his eyes the second he hears his voice by him and will pump his arm with excitement while he coo’s.
  • He’s a sleeper. He sleeps way more than Sadie ever did at this stage.
  • He hardly cries. The only time he really ever makes a peep is in the middle of the night when he suddenly wakes up from a deep sleep and realizes he hasn’t eaten and panics. Otherwise, he’s just a flexible and content little man.

He drives Daddy nuts with diaper changes. Every time Daddy goes to change his diaper, it’s like an invitation to poop multiple times. We’ve been going through a lot of diapers as a result. Donations are accepted in the form of Pampers Swaddlers size 1.

Stats from his first month:

  • Weight at birth (10/12): 8 pounds, 14 ounces
  • Weight at discharge from hospital (10/16): 8 pounds, 9 ounces
  • Weight at first Pediatrician visit (10/18): 9 pounds, 4 ounces
  • Weight at second Pediatrician visit (11/3): 11 pounds 0 ounces
  • Height at birth (10/12): 19 inches
  • Height at 3 weeks (11/3): 22 inches

Summary: He’s a solid tank!

Waiting to meet Jonah for the first time.

How is Sadie liking being a big sissy?

She has her emotional meltdown moments over little things more often, and expected waves of jealousy with not getting all of the attention anymore, but overall she LOVES being a big sissy.

  • She helps throw away diapers, runs after burp cloths, and tells us to “hurry” if Jonah cries.
  • She likes to sit by him when he is in his chair so she can read him her books.
  • She likes to sit with me and nurse. This worries TJ, but I assure him it’s totally normal (and makes the CLEC in me very proud).

18 Months

Before she even gets out of her crib she is asking to put her shoes on. We start most days with her diaper and a pair of shoes before breakfast.

Starting first thing in the morning  she requests the music be turned on so she can sing, dance, jump, and do her circles.

She says, “Happy Day” when she sees you getting her beloved berries out of the freezer. She has to have berries of some form with every meal.

She gives the best hugs around your neck and big kisses.

She has memorized almost all of her books.

She has the most beautiful little singing voice you’ve ever heard. Most times I catch her singing in her room playing with her shoes when she thinks I’m not looking.

She’s a sucker for water.

She lays down on her back on the floor at the drop of a hat asking for “tikkes” (tickles).

She loves nothing more than to chase and be chased by her Daddy in circles around the house until he stops to scare her at some point in the middle of her sprint. She asks for more.

She loves sitting on the couch or her chair like a big girl, but only on her “tooshie.”

When she gets in trouble and you have to tell her why what she did was wrong, she will immediately start pointing to all the features of your face in a sweet, innocent voice to distract you from any form of anger.

She talks to her Papa on her phone every morning.

She enjoys taking her books to the scale in our bathroom to sit for a quiet reading time by herself. When she’s done, she stands up and jumps off the scale with great pride.

She thinks all people, including herself have babies in their bellies like Mommy. Don’t take it personally if you don’t have a baby in your belly!

She puts her Ba (sippy) in the same place every time so everything is orderly and clean.

She eats dirt and comes to me to tell you, “Num, num” with the biggest dirt grin you’ve ever seen.

She is known to be the only girl in the nursery playing with cars and trucks in the corner while all the other girls play with their dollies.

She must be the only 18 month old sleeping with bumpers in her crib. She loves to use them as a pillow and nuzzles her head into the corner with her butt up in the air for the best sleep ever. We tried on numerous occasions taking them out, and she just wasn’t the same.

Happy half birthday baby girl!

One Year Old

Happy first birthday to our spunky girl, Sadie Rae!

I must admit that writing this post has been so difficult for me. Every time I go to write something, the tears immediately start flowing because my little baby isn’t so little anymore. This first year has flown by and so much has happened in such a short time.

Sadie, you have already taught me so much about being a Mommy and I have never loved anything in such a fierce way as I love you. I thank God every day for entrusting us with your little life and that He blessed us more than we deserve!

It’s so hard to believe that one year ago today you came into this world! You were a little helpless person who is now a talking, toddling little toddler!

One year ago today you looked like this:

Today, you look like this:

Stats:

Weight: 21 pounds (50%)

Height: 30 inches (78%)

Head: 46 cm. (75%)

On your 1st birthday, you love:

  • Walking with Mommy & Daddy holding your hands (the only time we get to hold your hands)
  • Music
  • Dancing to music
  • Stuffed Animals
  • Flipping pages in your books
  • Saying “hi” and waving to every stranger that passes
  • Frozen blueberries
  • Imitating us and learning new words
  • Wrestling with Daddy
  • Saying “hi” to the trees when we open your windows as soon as you wake up
  • Head bonk kisses with Mommy after nursing

You don’t care much for:

  • The car seat. You’re ready to turn around.
  • Holding hands.
  • Diaper changes.
  • Teething. We won’t hold that one against you though!
  • People you don’t know getting too close too quickly.

Words:

  1. Hi
  2. Bye
  3. Chee (Tree)
  4. Puh Puh (Pumpkin)
  5. Puppy
  6. No, no
  7. Yea
  8. Daddy
  9. Mommy
  10. More
  11. Boo (Book)
  12. Moo (when she sees a cow)

You’re uniquely you:

You are very outgoing and talkative. You either use the words you have, or babble in your own little language, but it is never silent in our home since you have so much to say. You say everything using your hands and lots of facial expressions too. You’re a little stubborn because we know you are plenty strong and capable of walking by yourself, but you think crawling is faster or Mommy & Daddy can lend a hand. You love making us laugh and you know you’re funny. You stop whatever you’re doing to dance to whatever music comes on and then resume your agenda. You’re simply a spunky little thing with a huge, playful personality.

Here’s a recap in monthly pictures of how much you’ve grown…

One Month Shy…My, Oh My!

Disclaimer: I can’t get the date to change, so for the sake of my insane need to keep things entirely accurate, this post is for Oct. 7, 2010.

Sadie is 11 months old today! This past month she has grown into a very opinionated little lady who has a mind of her own and a clear idea of what she wants out of life! You spend 5 minutes with her, and you’ll be in stitches laughing.

On the run...as usual!

Things…er…trouble she’s into:

  • Rolling toilet paper off the roll
  • Biting through cardboard boxes
  • Insisting on the Wheels on the Bus song so she can do “beep, beep, beep”
  • Throwing food off her high chair and then signing “all done”
  • Standing up in the bath tub and flinging herself back in defeat when we say she needs to sit like a big girl on her bottom in the bath
  • Banging her head on the cupboards for self-entertainment

Soaking up the last days of summer

Sweet Sadie Sappiness:

  • She cuddles in bed with me in the morning
  • She does head bonks like they are kisses
  • She brushes my hair and laughs with pride
  • She talks so much to herself that she raises her eyebrows and giggles at herself about whatever she is saying
  • She says a cute “hi” to her big brother bear every morning after her first feeding
  • She slaps her belly on command
  • She throws her hands on her head whenever you say “Oy Vey” like a good little Jewish girl
  • She calls out for her Daddy whenever she finds one of his shoes on the floor

Story time with Papa

Words: The Speech Pathologist in me is screaming with delight that she is using so many words so early, but then the happiness is met with pure terror for the fact that this little one is going to be talking our ears off!

  • Daddy, Dada
  • Mama
  • Yea
  • Om (More)
  • Chee (tree)
  • Hi
  • No
  • Ahmbee (hungry)

*We have 6 teeth total. 4 on the top and 2 on the bottom.

*We’re eating all sorts of fun things now. Usually whatever Mommy & Daddy eat,  but I won’t eat meat. I love any kind of carb though!

Whatcha up to?!

Thanks for being your spunky little loving self Sadie Rae Rae!
