Sleeping & Seinfeld

Remember that Seinfeld episode where Jerry arrives at the car rental place and they don’t have the car he reserved. He makes a big fuss over the fact that the company “…can take the reservation. Anyone can take the reservation. But can you HOLD the reservation?!”

Currently, we’re feeling somewhat of the same frustration with Sadie. She’s mastered falling asleep on her own. She’ll cry for less than 10 minutes before she’s out. But here’s where Seinfeld comes back in. Anybody can fall asleep, but can you STAY asleep?!

The answer to that question is NO.

I just don’t get it. She eats all day. She’s a great little napper. I know she’s getting enough milk. She just doesn’t stay asleep. And when she wakes up, there’s little you can ever do to get her back to sleep….

We’ve ignored her…FAIL

We’ve put pabby back in her mouth…FAIL

We’ve caressed her head….FAIL

We’ve swaddled her…FAIL

We’ve unswaddled her…FAIL

We’ve rocked her…FAIL

We’ve tried to bed-share…FAIL

We’ve tried telling her it’s sleepy time…FAIL

We’ve fed her…FAIL

We’ve turned all the lights off. We’ve kept a little light on….FAIL, FAIL.

We’ve tried her co-sleeper, sleeping with me, sleeping with Daddy…FAIL, FAIL, FAIL.

Put her on her back, on her side, on her tummy, in her Boppy…FAIL, FAIL, FAIL, FAIL.

I have a shortage of ideas now other than the realization that she would probably do a whole lot better in her own crib and in her own nursery…both things we can’t give her just yet. This Mama & Daddy are feeling exhausted. I need some caffeine delivered to my door.
